Me and the Education of Johnnie Negro is the story of a disenchanted 75 year-old retired black widower of the middle classes who is attracted to a much younger, just off welfare woman, Johnnie Negro, who has two children and whose husband is in prison on a drug conviction. Though the old man has lived the good life, he resents the lies, deceits and scams that have supported the system he has lived in which figured in his success. He questions the moral integrity of the system. He passes his revised thinking about ecology, education, history, politics, race, religion, etc., on to Johnnie. and seeks to educate her to the actual realities of life as he has experienced it. Johnnie becomes a successful, partially anglicized businesswoman. The old man leaves for Asia where he hopes to return to the earth in a natural way.

Me and the Education of Johnnie Negro is a new kind of novel. It not for those who seek escape in literature.
