This book was originally published as a paperback by Paragon Publishing in 1999.It is not a “how to” manual nor an “everything you ever wanted to know about the internet” reference book. Rather it is concerned with the use of the internet for teaching and learning purposes with a focus on developing generic learning skills through using ICT (including the internet) as a tool for so doing.Hence most of the book is still as relevant as when it was published, as generic learning skills are not tied to any particular level of technology. However, the development of particular uses such as social networking and video sharing (through sites such as Facebook and YouTube respectively, for example) has meant that these could merit some consideration in their own right. In addition, the development of iThings has changed the likelihood of school pupils having their own independent access to the internet even while in school.Conversely, the section in the original book dealing with connectivity has been removed as it was dependent on the technology of the time. Hence this Kindle version is an update of the original work in terms of some new content being added and significant portions being rewritten.
