New Feature for Secure Collaboration Platform Allows Businesses to Communicate Freely Post-GDPR

Zug, Berlin and San Francisco – Wire, the most secure collaboration platform for businesses, today announces the first fully open sourced, end-to-end encrypted video conferencing service.

44% of executives agree that video will be the go-to form of communication within the workplace in the next 5 years. With the global video conferencing market expected to expand at a CAGR of 7.9% from 2018 to 2026, many of these new customers will need to adopt end-to-end encrypted solutions in order to comply with the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and keep their employees and business interests safe. Video conferencing marks a crucial step forward in Wire’s mission to secure all forms of business communication.

Launching on desktop, directly in web browsers, iOS, and Android platforms, it will help organisations work together more efficiently and securely, both internally and with external partners via invitation-based guest rooms.

“Encrypted communications are no longer optional for businesses, and video conferencing must have this protection too,” commented Wire CEO Morten Brøgger. “Video calling is a vital part of team collaboration, and Wire is pleased to extend its industry-leading security to critical business, legal, HR and intellectual property discussions across the world.”

Wire’s video conferencing will tie together its current offering of messaging, audio and video calling, and file sharing, all secured with the same level of open sourced independently audited end-to-end encryption. This also means that businesses that now find themselves dealing with GDPR can rely on Wire to protect their data and ensure compliance.

Wire CTO/COO and co-founder, Alan Duric, said “Recently we have seen companies tackling their own internal struggles with non-compliant shadow IT in the wake of GDPR. It may seem harsh to mandate what your employees can and cannot use, but ultimately, some applications are not designed for the corporate environment and cannot be trusted to protect communications between your employees.”

Brøgger concluded: “With the addition of video conferencing, Wire overtakes consumer apps by offering top-of-the line security, consumer-grade user experience, combined with the control and compliance of an enterprise solution. I am very proud of the team that took on a complex technical challenge and delivered brilliantly.”
