Company Cites Innovative Technology and Industry Results as Basis for Straight-to-Rollout Implementation, Accelerating Safety and Operational Benefits
SmartDrive Systems, a leader in video safety and transportation intelligence, today announced that Superior Paving, one of the largest asphalt pavers on the East Coast, has selected the SmartDrive® Transportation Intelligence Platform with SR4 hardware as its video-based safety program.
Based on SmartDrive’s outstanding industry reputation, compelling customer references and proven track record of results, Superior Paving chose to forego a pilot program and will install the SmartDrive program across its entire fleet.
“It’s not often that you see a product that can solve many problems while also creating a safer culture. After researching other platforms, SmartDrive immediately rose to the top,” commented Todd Atkins, safety director, Superior Paving. “From the size of the camera, extended recording capability and superior customer service, to the platform’s ability to capture more data from SmartDrive 360, insightful analytics and intuitive dashboard, there was no question that SmartDrive was the right program for us.”
For more than four decades, Superior Paving has been recognized for the quality of its work, strength of its leadership in the asphalt industry and innovation in new technologies and methods. A commitment to leveraging the most advanced solutions available is one reason Superior Paving selected the new SmartDrive Transportation Intelligence Platform with SR4 hardware.
“The compact size, expanded hard-drive and notable expansion integration options of the SR4 made a great product even better and further bolstered the wisdom of our decision to adopt the new platform,” remarked Moses Greenberg of Superior Paving. “SmartDrive not only provides a best-in-class video-based driver safety solution, but its SmartIQ® analytics offers us completely integrated metrics and reporting in a single platform. Combined with the SR4, which offers flexibility to grow with us, we are confident we’re getting the most advanced solution available.”
With “Safety Is For Life” at the core of its safety culture, Superior Paving relies on the built-in flexibility of the SmartDrive program to continually assess its safety performance as the company evolves, and measure its performance against peers.
“I appreciate that SmartDrive answers many questions for us,” Atkins continued. “Not only can we use the SmartDrive program to improve safety and reduce collisions and liability, but the extended recording capability and additional cameras also help us enhance safety—particularly with sideswipes—and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures on job sites and in our yards. It will also greatly increase fuel efficiency throughout our fleet, which equates to dollars to our bottom line.”
The SmartDrive SmartIQ Transportation Intelligence Suite was an integral factor in Superior Paving’s decision to implement the SmartDrive program. The SmartIQ Suite transforms massive volumes of data generated by commercial fleets into real-time actionable information, predictive analysis and prescriptive actions that drive measurable value for businesses. Initially, Superior Paving will use SmartIQ to analyze smooth driving, hard acceleration, tight cornering and idling in order to increase fuel efficiency. As the company’s safety culture evolves, management plans to incorporate SmartIQ into driver reward and recognition programs as well.
“With the SmartDrive program, it’s like having another safety officer in our company,” added Atkins. “Not only does the SmartDrive platform have the best visibility to what’s happening out on the road, it also removes subjectivity from the equation. It provides us with the facts to know what happened and context to improve a driver’s performance. For Superior Paving, the SmartDrive program is another tool to help us improve our drivers and our company, while protecting us from any type of litigation.”
Other factors influencing Superior Paving’s decision were SmartDrive’s comprehensive managed service offering, accessible customer service, intuitive coaching interface and real-time delivery of video-based insights.
“We’re extremely proud to welcome Superior Paving to the growing roster of innovative fleets that recognize the value only the most advanced transportation intelligence platform can deliver,” stated Steve Mitgang, SmartDrive CEO. “The company’s decision to move straight to implementation further reaffirms what many fleets are quickly realizing: the cost of waiting to roll-out is significant. The cost savings of avoiding one collision or exonerating a driver in one incident can be enough to pay for the entire system—and each day vehicles are on the road without video protection exposes the fleet to unnecessary risk.”
