On Saturday 12 August, Grace Golden, from Ashby-De-La-Zouch willingly leaped from an airplane 15,000 ft. high, all in aid of charity.

The 26-year-old who works as a Business Development Executive at leading brand agency, Champions (UK) plc, raised valuable funds for Prostate Cancer UK. Grace, who at Champions is responsible for obtaining new business, skydived alongside her father Tony, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016 and is currently undergoing treatment.

Grace said of her involvement with the charity: “Following my father’s diagnosis back in 2016 I discovered Prostate Cancer UK. The charity do great work in supporting men with the disease and invest in ground breaking research, so we wanted to support the charity in any way we could”

With a history of cancer in the family, and with Tony’s recent diagnosis, the pair wanted to raise awareness of the disease. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with over 47,000 in the UK diagnosed every year.

Thanks to their skydive and other fundraising activities, Grace and Tony more than tripled their initial target of £400, raising a fantastic £1,287 for the worthy charity!

In fact, the pair reached their target after just one day through hosting a ‘brew & bake day’ at Grace’s house in Ilkeston which saw 50 people attend. The day featured homemade treats and a raffle with prizes kindly donated by local businesses including two John Legend tickets donated by Motorpoint.

On the lead-up to the skydive, Grace and Tony hosted several other bake days and shared their fundraising story on social media. They also gained generous donations from friends and family.

Speaking of the skydive, Grace said: “We had originally booked in to do the skydive back in June, but due to bad weather it was called off. On Saturday, it wasn’t until we were called for briefing that it was confirmed we would be jumping. Of course, it was a nerve-wracking experience, we were 15,000 ft. in the air, but the serge of adrenaline that fills the body on the drop dispelled any worry. Plus, we both had the motivation of each other and the fantastic money we were raising for an even more fantastic cause meaning there was no going back!”

The duo aren’t stopping their fundraising there either. Plans are already afoot to partake in a 5k in March 2018 for the charity, which is part of Tony and Grace’s plans to fundraise at least once a year for Prostate Cancer UK, for the foreseeable future.
