LITIGATION PARTNER TONYA ESPOSITO OLIVER JOINS SEYFARTH IN WASHINGTON, D.C.Published : 9 years ago, on
Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today that Tonya Esposito Oliver has joined the firm’s Litigation department as a partner and member of its Consumer Financial Services Litigation practice group and White Collar, Internal Investigations, and False Claims Team in Washington, D.C. Oliver joins Seyfarth from León Cosgrove LLC, where she was a partner in the Financial Services and White Collar practice groups in Washington, D.C.
Oliver has extensive experience representing large financial institutions in both litigation and compliance matters. Since 2010, she’s served as one of the primary national outside counsel for a major financial institution, co-leading a team of 40 lawyers in navigating the complex business and legal issues presented amidst the mortgage foreclosure crisis and anti-bank climate that pervaded the county. She has represented a number of financial institutions in a variety of matters involving government investigations and related internal audits, class actions, qui tam matters, and single borrower cases.
Oliver has helped a number of financial institutions develop strategies designed to comply with the expectations of the regulators and to reduce exposure to enforcement actions and related litigation, including evaluating and revising protocols and procedures. She regularly advises her financial services clients on the state and federal consumer protection laws, including the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
Additionally, Oliver has represented both companies and individuals in all phases of government and internal investigations and enforcement proceedings, including antitrust cartel and False Claims Act matters. Her major representations include clients in the transportation, life sciences and healthcare, financial services, technology, and energy industries.
“We are thrilled that Tonya has joined us. She is a highly skilled litigator and counselor who has represented leading financial institutions and Fortune 500 companies in state and federal litigation, regulatory, and compliance matters across the country,” said Kate Perrelli, chair of Seyfarth’s Litigation department. “Her experience will add additional depth to our teams in her practice areas, particularly in the D.C. market which is a key market for Seyfarth.”
“Tonya is an outstanding legal talent that has quickly established a premier practice in the District,” said Robert Bodansky, managing partner of Seyfarth’s Washington, D.C. office. “As we continue to offer comprehensive legal services out of Washington, Tonya’s litigation prowess will be a key part of our growth.”
Oliver is actively involved with Lafayette Elementary School’s Home and School Association, and currently serves as the Membership Director. Lafayette is a public elementary school located in the District of Columbia. Oliver received her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law and earned a B.A. from Trinity College in Washington, D.C.
Oliver’s arrival follows the recent addition of partner and former Assistant United States Attorney Andrew S. Boutros who joined the firm’s Litigation department as co-chair of its White Collar, Internal Investigations, and False Claims Team in Chicago and Washington, D.C. Comprised of more than 170 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Seyfarth’s litigation practice covers the full spectrum of litigation services, including trials and appeals in federal and state courts, in cases involving disputes over intellectual property, real estate and construction, trade secrets and restrictive covenants, creditors’ rights and bankruptcy, product liability and other torts, insurance, D&O securities, government contracts, antitrust and trade regulation and other types of complex business litigation.
