SULLIVAN & WORCESTER LAUNCHES UK INSURANCE AND DISPUTES PRACTICES
SULLIVAN & WORCESTER LAUNCHES UK INSURANCE AND DISPUTES PRACTICES

Published : , on

Sullivan & Worcester is pleased to announce that Marian Boyle has joined the firm as a partner in the London office. She heads the UK insurance and disputes practices working closely with the firm’s established trade and export finance team, and US-based disputes team, offering advice on insurance, risk management and commercial dispute resolution.

Marian joined Sullivan & Worcester’s London team on June 4, from Dentons. Sullivan & Worcester’s London office is led by trade finance partner Geoff Wynne, who joined the firm in October 2013 to launch the office.

With over 20 years’ experience, Marian advises banks, insurance brokers, investment funds, government agencies and corporates on commercial insurance arrangements which support structured trade, commodity and pre-export financing as well as corporate finance, energy, property, M&A and outsourcing transactions. She also drafts and interprets insurance policies and advises on the use of insurance by credit institutions and investments firms as credit risk mitigation for capital adequacy purposes under the Capital Requirements Regulation.

Marian’s contentious experience includes advising clients in relation to disputes arising from trade credit, professional negligence and transactional disputes. These disputes are often international in nature and result in large-scale, highly complex multi-party litigation and arbitrations. This broad-based experience will complement the firm’s extensive US disputes team.

The role insurance plays in international commercial contracts is particularly under the spotlight in 2016 owing to major revisions to UK insurance law, which come into force in August this year, making the firm’s decision to enhance its insurance offering particularly timely.

Her expertise will also support Sullivan & Worcester’s role as the official legal advisor to the International Trade & Forfaiting Association (ITFA)’s insurance committee, which was set up to boost the co-operation between banks, insurance companies and brokers in risk mitigation of transactional banking assets.

“Marian is a widely-respected lawyer, offering clients insurance-related and dispute resolution advice. Her high level expertise will blend extremely well with our established trade and export finance practice, as well as broaden out our client offering in London. Her work on significant contentious and non-contentious matters will add to the momentum we have built up over the last three years. I very much look forward to working with her again,” commented Geoff Wynne, trade finance partner and head of Sullivan & Worcester’s London office.

“Marian’s arrival in London will support our established market-leading transactional trade finance team as well as offering high-quality litigation expertise, both on a stand-alone basis, and in relation to trade and related finance and insurance risk. Marian’s arrival will help enhance the firm’s appeal to clients working across Europe and beyond,” added Joel Carpenter, managing partner of Sullivan & Worcester.
