Investment Firm Hires Jonathan R. Evans and Lawrence Harvey Weisman
SG Capital Management, LLC, a SEC registered investment adviser, headquartered in Chicago, IL, is pleased to announce the appointment of two seasoned Research Analysts in September 2016. Jonathan R. Evans and Lawrence Harvey Weisman will share responsibility for idea generation alongside the equity analyst team.
Jon R. Evans graduated cum laude from Butler University in 1991 with a B.S. degree in Finance. He began his career in the finance industry as an equity research analyst and portfolio manager for Heartland Capital. Mr. Evans led the investment advisor “Heartland Consults” team as an equity research analyst concentrating on idea generation for the Merrill Lynch managed portfolio business relationship.
Mr. Evans joined Conseco Capital Management in 1993 as a research analyst and portfolio manager for their insurance wrapped mutual fund products. Mr. Evans was recruited by Friess Associates, manager of the Brandywine Funds, as a research consultant from 1996 to 2006. He spent ten years with Friess Associates where he worked on Ethan’s team and was responsible for idea generation. Following his decade with Friess Associates, Jon became Director of Research with the Fundamental Growth Equity team at Wells Capital Management.Mr. Evans continued his career from 2009 until 2012 at Edmunds White Partners, LLC, a long short hedge fund where his responsibilities included analysis, portfolio management, and asset gathering. In February 2013, Mr. Evans spun out the long short hedge fund from Edmunds White as J-West, LLC, where he served as majority owner and Chief Investment Officer. Jonathan retired from the industry to spend more time with his children in 2014. He eagerly plans to resume his work in financial analysis and portfolio management, by joining SG Capital Management, LLC.
Lawrence Harvey Weisman received his B.A. in economics from Vassar College in 1987 and his M.B.A. from University of Pittsburgh in 1991. Immediately prior to joining SG Capital, Harv was a Portfolio Manager for Teton Capital Advisers, (no affiliation with SG Capital Management’s Teton strategy) co-managing a long/short equity fund and conducting fundamental equity research for 19 years. During his tenure at Teton Capital Advisers, Harv also served as a research consultant to Friess Associates, manager of the Brandywine mutual fund, from 1997 through 2012.
Before joining Teton Capital, Harv spent 6 years at Andersen Consulting (Accenture) as a Senior Manager in their Financial Services practice where he focused on large bank mergers and acquisitions. While at Andersen, Harv was fortunate to help oversee business integration planning for the Chase Manhattan and Chemical Bank merger in 1995, which created the largest global bank at that time. After graduating from college, and prior to attending business school, Harv worked for First City National Bank in New York City for 2 years as a money market investment analyst.“We are excited to have both Jon and Harv join our team. We feel that they will add significant value and tremendous depth to our existing team’s research efforts,” said Ken Grossman, one of the founding partners of SG Capital Management.
